Private Wine Tour
The Wine from the Abbey Boat from Cannes
from your accommodation
Description
Cannes is of course best known for its Film Festival and the glamorous Croisette with its grand hotels, its harbours and yachts, and its designer shops and its old town. However, there is more than meets the eye….
One of the least well known vineyards in Provence is run by the Monks from the Abbey of Lérins – one of the two small islands in the bay of Cannes. The wines are as heavenly as the environment. Before we cross by boat we’ll take a stroll through the old market in Le Suquet, with its stalls full of local crafts, tasty fresh produce, and herbs and spices.
This will be a day full of surprises and a feast for the eyes…..
Highlights :
+This is a chance to lose yourself in mysterious world of the Abbey of Lérins
+Genuine tastes and flavours of the South of France in the old market
+A boat trip out to the island, and back!
+The scenery of the bay and the islands provides great photo opportunities
+A wine tasting in the colours of Provence – Red, White and Rosé, plus a few surprises
+Tips on wine tasting and on how to best pair food and wine, throughout the day
Schedule
10 am: Meet in front of the Palais des Festivals
10.15 am: Guided visit through the old market in Le Suquet, where we’ll taste lots of local provençal and niçois specialities, as well as local farm cheeses….
12noon: Departure on the foot passenger boat for the island of Saint Honorat
12:30 pm: Wine tasting at the Abbey – a tutored tasting of these very special wines, that occupy a place all of their own in the secular world of provençal wines
13:15 pm: Lunch at the island’s only waterside restaurant, with a spectacular view of the bay of Cannes, the island of Sainte Marguerite, and a backdrop of the hills of Grasse with the Alps beyond
3 pm: A walk through the vineyards of the island – here there are no cars, so it is a haven of peace and tranquillity, where we can discover the beauty and history of the chapels, towers, ramparts and the monestary, dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries.
